By this time, you should have received the announcement informing our members of the results of the election of officers held last October 15. We would like to thank the past PAP Board, headed by Dr. Margaret Alvarez, who selflessly served the organization from 2016 to 2018. Likewise, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Angela Regala, who served as Ex-Officio for the past 2 years. The new set of PAP Board looks forward to a fruitful year ahead, serving and working with the members of our organization, and strengthening our professional networks in and outside the country.
On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank our colleagues who participated in the 55th PAP Annual Convention, held last September 20-22, at the Philippine International Convention Center. The event was attended by over 2,000 Psychology professionals. There were a total of 170 papers orally presented, 57 posters exhibited, 3 plenary talks, 31 symposia, 26 learning sessions, and 20 post-convention workshops. We are grateful to the De La Salle University Department of Psychology for co-hosting the event, and for sending in a team of very efficient faculty and student volunteers to assist from registration to the conclusion of the convention. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes out to our hardworking PAP Secretariat for their tireless efforts working early morning and late nights before, during, and after convention.
During the convention, our past PAP leaders, through the session on Presidents Initiative, shared with the audience the feats and challenges that PAP encountered during their respective terms, and their insights regarding the direction that PAP, as a national organization, should take this year and beyond. We are much obliged to our former PAP Presidents for gracing the convention with their presence, and for their counsel and continued support for our organization.
Two special interest groups (SIGs) were formally introduced during the convention: the Substance Use Prevention and Recovery SIG, and the Psychology Professionals in Public Service SIG. I encourage our members to get to know the different PAP Divisions and SIGs, and to join one that resonates with your practice, interest, and advocacy. Our divisions and SIGs endeavor to provide professional development activities, which our members, and even non-members, can participate in. Below is a list of PAP’s divisions and SIGs, and their respective Chairs/Coordinators:
